End of the trail for Texas independence.
April 22, 1836
Having been captured the previous day and wearing a regular soldier's uniform to aid his escape, General Antonio López de Santa Anna, who had been recognized by a number of his troops, was brought before the injured General Sam Houston. Santa Anna formally surrendered, thus securing Texas' independence from Mexico.
