Texas Sovereignty Act - HB 1215

Status Report on HB 1215, the Texas Sovereignty Act, our flagship bill this session.So far, Representatives Phil King, Will Metcalf, and Steve Toth are joint authors. And Kyle Biedermannn , Jeff Cason , Travis Clardy, Drew Darby, Glenn Rogers, Bryan Slaton, and Cody Vasut have co-authored.I find this an encouraging mix of experienced legislators and freshman that also run the gamut from conservative to moderate. Both Phil King and Will Metcalf are on State Affairs where the bill has been assigned. Drew Darby helped get this bill out of the committee he chaired in 2017.We can always use more co-authors, so ask your state rep to join them!The State Affairs Committee where this has been assigned has been super busy, mainly with the grid failure this winter. I do not know how soon State Affairs Chair Chris Paddie will choose to hear HB 1215. Author Cecil Bell Jr., has to decide the right timing on when to ask Chair Paddie for the hearing. Given this strange year, THAT is a delicate balancing act!
